Festival Internacional Cervantino Barroco in San Cristóbal: 2026 Guide

2026 program status

The SIC lists the dates, 24th edition and general venues but does not assign every activity to a day, venue and time. Turismo San Cristóbal’s individual listings place the October 8 exhibition at 5:00 PM in Sala Leonardo Da Vinci at MUSAC and the October 9 conversation at 5:30 PM in Sala “Bruno Barrientos” at Centro Cultural El Carmen. Its October calendar lists the concerts on October 9, 10 and 11 at 8:00 PM at Foro Principal in MUSAC’s courtyard. The current CONECULTA captions for Los Amigos Invisibles on October 9 and La Santa Cecilia on October 11 say 8:30 PM. SanCrisGo’s Event cards show the CONECULTA times and retain the Turismo schedule as the conflicting reference. The card for Los K’comxtles remains at 8:00 PM. Check each related Event for its current source details; this partial schedule does not confirm the full program. What the festival is

The Festival Internacional Cervantino Barroco began in 2002. SIC describes it as an extension of the Festival Internacional Cervantino and traces its origins to the Encuentro de Música Antigua. San Cristóbal’s edition has its own local program and venues, organized through Chiapas’s cultural institutions. Past editions have included a range of arts and cultural activities; those categories do not confirm a specific 2026 lineup.

Confirmed venues

The 2026 SIC record lists parks in four neighborhoods, Centro Cultural El Carmen and Iglesia de la Merced as general venues. The individually announced festival activities use Foro Principal in the courtyard of Museo de San Cristóbal (MUSAC) and rooms at Centro Cultural El Carmen. The CELALI expo-sale is at CELALI. Check each Event card for its specific place and time.

FIMCO is a separate festival

The Festival Internacional México Chiapas Original (FIMCO) is a separate festival with its own program and organizer. Its 2026 schedule places its San Cristóbal stage on October 7–8, Zinacantán on October 9 and Tuxtla Gutiérrez on October 14–15. FIMCO is not part of the Cervantino Barroco program. In San Cristóbal, the published festival dates overlap on October 8; check each schedule separately.

Practical planning for October 8–11

Consider all four dates when planning accommodation and transport. On Thursday, October 8, the CELALI expo-sale is listed for 10:00 AM and the exhibition opening for 5:00 PM. On Friday, October 9 there is a conversation at 5:30 PM followed by a concert; CONECULTA currently lists Los Amigos Invisibles at 8:30 PM while Turismo still lists 8:00 PM. Saturday’s Los K’comxtles listing is 8:00 PM. For Sunday’s La Santa Cecilia concert, CONECULTA says 8:30 PM and Turismo says 8:00 PM. Check the Event cards and current official announcements before setting out. Other activities may use different sites, so leave time to travel between locations and confirm each address. If you also plan to attend FIMCO, treat its October 7–8 San Cristóbal dates as a separate program. Bring comfortable shoes for cobbled streets.

October weather

San Cristóbal’s highland weather can change through the day in October, with possible showers and cooler evenings. Pack a light waterproof layer and a warmer layer. Check a short-range forecast close to your travel dates rather than relying on a seasonal average.

Cultural places between events

Use gaps between scheduled activities to explore the historic center and its cultural spaces. El Carmen and La Merced are also listed as general festival venues, but access depends on the current program and opening hours. Check each place’s listing before planning a separate visit.

Staying longer: nature options

If you have an extra day, consider a nature outing before or after the festival. The Rancho Nuevo and El Arcotete Tour and the Sumidero Canyon boat trip with three viewpoints and Chiapa de Corzo are separate plans. Check duration, departure point and availability with the provider.

This is not Guanajuato’s Festival Cervantino

The San Cristóbal event is the Festival Internacional Cervantino Barroco, a local Chiapas festival with its own dates and program. Guanajuato’s Festival Internacional Cervantino is a separate event in another city. The shared word “Cervantino” does not mean the two festivals share a schedule or lineup.
