December 12 is the main day of the Virgen de Guadalupe celebrations in San Cristóbal. Activity builds in Barrio de Guadalupe during the preceding days, with the church, plazuela and upper end of Real de Guadalupe as the main visitor area.
What happens
Recent municipal records confirm:
- pilgrimages arriving at the Guadalupe church;
- large numbers of worshippers on the stairs and around the plazuela;
- temporary food and merchandise stalls;
- special traffic, fire-safety and Protección Civil operations.
On December 12, 2025 the municipality also organized its own pilgrimage to the church. In 2024, Protección Civil reported roughly 1,000 people moving through the church access stairs during its monitoring period.

What visitors should expect
Real de Guadalupe and the church area can become much busier than on a normal day. When pilgrimages and street activity are heavy, walking is usually more practical than trying to drive through the immediate area.
This is an active religious celebration, not a staged tourist event. Give processions space, follow local instructions and ask permission before photographing people at close range.
