December 12 is the main day of the Virgen de Guadalupe celebrations in San Cristóbal, with activity building in Barrio de Guadalupe in the days before it.
The most important visitor point is the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe and the surrounding plazuela at the upper end of Real de Guadalupe.
What happens
Recent municipal records confirm:
- pilgrimages arriving at the Guadalupe church;
- large numbers of worshippers on the stairs and around the plazuela;
- temporary food and merchandise stalls;
- special traffic, fire-safety and Protección Civil operations.
On December 12, 2025 the municipality also organized its own pilgrimage to the church. In 2024, Protección Civil reported roughly 1,000 people moving through the church access stairs during its monitoring period.
When to go
Main date: December 12
Active period: the first part of December, with activity increasing close to the 12th
The exact cultural, religious and street program changes each year. As of August 24, 2026, no official detailed 2026 program was found. Check current municipal or organizer announcements closer to December 12.
What visitors should expect
Real de Guadalupe and the church area can become much busier than on a normal day. Walking is usually more practical than trying to move through the immediate area by car when pilgrimages and street activity are heavy.
This is an active religious celebration, not a staged tourist event. Give processions space, follow local instructions and avoid blocking worshippers or photographing people at close range without permission.
