Art Galleries & Cultural Spaces in San Cristóbal de las Casas

It is a cultural center rather than a conventional commercial gallery, so check the exhibition or activity currently scheduled.

Bats’i Lab: documentary photography and archive

Bats’i Lab is an independent photography collective and documentation center in Barrio del Cerrillo. Its current official site describes a Centro de Documentación de la Fotografía en Chiapas with a reference collection, library, public exhibition space and photography-production resources, alongside exhibitions and documentary projects.

It suits visitors interested in documentary photography and visual narratives about contemporary Chiapas. Check the current show before making a special trip.

La Enseñanza Casa de la Ciudad

La Enseñanza Casa de la Ciudad is a restored historic property managed by Na Bolom. Its current official page describes it as a cultural center with temporary exhibitions, workshops, theater, music, painting and cinema.

The building and its broader cultural program are part of the visit, not only the current exhibition.

SENDAS Espacio Cultural

SENDAS Espacio Cultural combines a café with ImagenArte, a library and a video library. Its current official site presents it as a social and cultural meeting space rather than a traditional gallery.

It suits visitors looking for a mixed cultural space rather than a formal exhibition room.

Event-driven cultural spaces

Some important cultural venues are best checked through their current program rather than treated as permanent galleries:

• Kinoki is an independent cinema and cultural forum with documentary and auteur film, cine-debates, talks, exhibitions, theater, dance and live music. Its current site publishes the live cinema schedule.
• El Paliacate Espacio Cultural combines a gallery-café and screening space with workshops, concerts, cinema, theater and exhibitions.
• Centro Cultural El Carmen is a municipal cultural center used for workshops, cinema, theater, visual-arts exhibitions and book presentations. For October 9–11, 2026, El Carmen is also among the venues listed for the Festival Internacional Cervantino Barroco. See the Cervantino Barroco 2026 guide for the confirmed dates and current program status.
• Casa Urdimbre on Real de Guadalupe is a mixed-use creative house combining gallery/artisan retail with workshops and changing art or market events. Treat it as a live creative venue rather than a permanent museum-style exhibition.

Check Events and each venue’s current channels for what is happening this week.
