Important: Tuxtla city and Tuxtla Airport are not the same trip
This distinction causes a lot of confusion online.
There are two different journeys:
Tuxtla Gutiérrez city → San Cristóbal de las Casas
and
Aeropuerto Internacional Ángel Albino Corzo (TGZ) → San Cristóbal de las Casas
The airport is outside central Tuxtla, so airport transport costs considerably more.
If you have just landed at TGZ and want to go directly to San Cristóbal, you usually do not need to travel into Tuxtla first.
See the separate SanCrisGo guide:
Tuxtla Gutiérrez Airport (TGZ) → San Cristóbal de las Casas
Taking the bus from Tuxtla
ADO has a dedicated booking page for:
Terminal Tuxtla Gutiérrez → Terminal San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Current August 2026 listings show services operated under several brands in the ADO network, including:
- OCC
- ADO
- ADO GL
- ADO Conecta
- Cristóbal Colón
Not every departure is identical in price or vehicle type. For this short journey, the most useful comparison is usually:
departure time → departure terminal → price → travel time
rather than choosing a bus based only on the brand.
Where do buses leave from in Tuxtla?
The most important terminal for visitors is the ADO/OCC Terminal near Plaza Las Américas.
ADO lists its Tuxtla Gutiérrez terminal on 5 Norte Poniente near the boulevard and Plaza Las Américas area.
Current booking data gives the Plaza Las Américas terminal location as:
5a. Norte Poniente 2650, esquina Boulevard Antonio Pariente Algarín, Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
Many current San Cristóbal departures shown for August 2026 leave from this terminal.
Are there other terminals?
Yes.
Local reporting identifies two important departure points for San Cristóbal:
- the OCC/ADO terminal at Plaza Las Américas;
- Central Camionera del Sur.
Current transport databases also list additional Tuxtla stops, including the Cristóbal Colón terminal.
For a visitor, the practical rule is simple:
Go to the terminal printed on your ticket.
Do not assume that every Tuxtla → San Cristóbal vehicle leaves from Plaza Las Américas.
How much does the bus cost?
Current Busbud data checked on August 13, 2026 shows prices roughly between MXN 67 and MXN 95 for upcoming dates, with some specific departures listed around MXN 64–90.
These are current booking snapshots rather than permanent fares.
SanCrisGo therefore recommends checking the price for your actual travel date rather than relying on a fixed number from an older article.
How long does the trip take?
Current route data shows approximately 1 hour 9 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes for many services between the Plaza Las Américas terminal and San Cristóbal.
Traffic and road conditions can increase the journey time.
For simple planning, allow roughly:
1¼ hours
plus the time you need to reach and wait at the terminal.
How often do buses leave?
This is a high-frequency route.
Current August 2026 booking data shows numerous departures over the course of the day, including early morning, daytime and late-evening services.
We intentionally do not reproduce a full timetable here because departure times change.
For the current schedule, search:
Tuxtla Gutiérrez → San Cristóbal de las Casas
through ADO or another live booking service.
Do you need to book in advance?
Usually this is easier than a long-distance route because there are many daily departures.
However, booking in advance can still be useful when:
- you have a specific arrival time in San Cristóbal;
- you are traveling on a busy weekend or holiday;
- you want to know exactly which Tuxtla terminal to use;
- you prefer not to wait for the next available service.
ADO currently allows the route to be searched and purchased online.
What about colectivos or shared vans?
Shared vans and colectivos also operate between Tuxtla and San Cristóbal.
A local university guide describes buses, taxis and combis/Sprinters as established ways to travel between the two cities.
Local reporting in January 2025 reported a MXN 70 fare on a San Cristóbal–Tuxtla colectivo route.
However, we have not yet independently verified the current August 2026 fare, exact Tuxtla boarding point and operator details for these colectivos.
For that reason, SanCrisGo currently recommends the ADO/OCC terminal as the easiest option for a first-time visitor.
We will update this guide once the current colectivo service has been locally verified.
Taxi from Tuxtla to San Cristóbal
A taxi is another possible option, but for one traveler it will normally cost significantly more than the bus or colectivo.
A taxi may make more sense if:
- several people can split the cost;
- you want door-to-door transport;
- you have substantial luggage;
- your origin in Tuxtla is far from the bus terminal.
We are not publishing a fixed Tuxtla → San Cristóbal taxi price yet because we have not verified a current official or consistently reliable fare for the entire intercity route.
Agree on the total price before starting the trip.
Where do you arrive in San Cristóbal?
Current bus listings show the San Cristóbal arrival point at the main bus-terminal area on:
Avenida Insurgentes 66, Santa Lucía, San Cristóbal de las Casas.
This is south of the historic center.
Your accommodation may still require:
- a short taxi ride;
- a walk;
- another local connection.
Before leaving Tuxtla, check where your specific service terminates.
What if you arrive in Tuxtla by long-distance bus?
If another bus brings you into the ADO/OCC terminal at Plaza Las Américas, continuing to San Cristóbal can be especially simple because many current San Cristóbal departures use the same transport hub.
Check the next available departure rather than automatically leaving the terminal.
This can be useful for travelers arriving in Tuxtla from other parts of Mexico.
