Amatenango del Valle: pottery and artisan context
Choose Amatenango del Valle if pottery and direct artisan context matter more to you than adding another landscape stop. INAH places the Tseltal municipality about 41 km from San Cristóbal and documents pottery as a central local economic activity historically led by women artisans.
The community is known for hand-shaped clay work including vessels, incense burners, animal figures and ceramic jaguars. It is not one centralized craft market: production is connected to households and workshops.

For only a few hours, El Arcotete, and keep the trip close to San Cristóbal. Mamut is the shortest cave-and-park option in this group; Rancho Nuevo adds more pine-forest recreation.
