A genuinely free museum option

Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya, inside the former Santo Domingo convent, currently publishes free admission Tuesday–Saturday. Its regular opening schedule is Tuesday–Sunday, 09:00–18:00.

That makes it a practical free indoor option in the historic center, especially on a rainy day. Admission policies can change, so check the CTMM visitor page before making a special trip.

Museo de Historia y Curiosidades

Museo de Historia y Curiosidades de San Cristóbal currently publishes free admission and Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00 hours through both the federal cultural registry and the foundation that operates it. Its exhibits cover San Cristóbal from 1528 to 1973 through photographs, objects and stories about changes in everyday city life.

As with any free-admission policy, recheck before making a special trip.

Markets without buying

Browsing Santo Domingo craft stalls or José Castillo Tielemans does not require admission. Shopping and food, of course, are separate costs.

Guadalupe and neighborhood walks

Walking east along Real de Guadalupe and continuing uphill toward the church is free. Access to religious interiors can change because of services, restoration or local rules, so the public walk is the reliable part of the plan.

Central barrios also work well for a no-ticket walk. Respect residents and ask before taking close portraits of people.

Not necessarily free

Museums, guided tours, ecotourism parks, caves and transport to nearby communities may cost money. Confirm the current admission and transport price for the activity you plan.
