Barrio de Mexicanos
Av. 20 de Noviembre 36, Barrio de Mexicanos, 29240 San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico
For a first visit, use the short Arco del Carmen–Plaza 31 de Marzo–Santo Domingo route; add Guadalupe only if you want a longer uphill walk. The core route is much shorter than a half-day, while museums, markets and interior access require extra time and a current check.
Culture & Local Life
San Cristóbal was founded as Villa Real de Chiapa in 1528, became Ciudad Real in 1536 and remained a major regional political center until 1892.
Things to Do
For a first church walk, start in the center with the Cathedral, San Nicolás, Santo Domingo and El Carmen; add Guadalupe for a neighborhood climb and treat San Cristóbalito as a separate hilltop visit.
Things to Do
For a no-admission day in San Cristóbal, use public streets, plazas, neighborhood walks, market browsing and the current free museum policies. A walking tour is tip-based rather than guaranteed free, and parks, caves and transport may cost extra.
Plan Your Trip
Build three days as city, highland communities and one major nature trip. Keep Day 1 walkable, combine Chamula with Zinacantán on Day 2, then choose Sumidero for a boat-and-canyon day or El Chiflón + Montebello for waterfalls and lakes; add a fourth day if you want both.
Things to Do
For a first visit, put the historic center on day one, add Chamula and Zinacantán for a half-day, and reserve a full day for Sumidero or another longer outing.
