San Cristóbal de las Casas in 2 Days: 2-Day Itinerary
With two days in San Cristóbal, use one day for the historic center and one for a single major excursion. For most first-time visitors, Day 1 works best on foot in the city; on Day 2 choose either Chamula + Zinacantán for culture or Sumidero Canyon for nature rather than trying to do both.

Two days is enough to understand San Cristóbal itself and add one major excursion, but not enough to stack several long day trips without rushing.

Day 1: historic center → Santo Domingo → textiles/crafts → Real de Guadalupe → Guadalupe hill
Day 2: choose Chamula + Zinacantán or Sumidero Canyon + Chiapa de Corzo
If this is your first visit, keep the first day inside San Cristóbal. The center is compact and most of the useful route is walkable.
Day 1: San Cristóbal on foot
Start around Arco del Carmen, continue to Plaza 31 de Marzo and the Cathedral, then walk toward Santo Domingo.
At Santo Domingo, choose one deeper stop rather than trying to see every museum:
- Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya for textile context;
- the surrounding crafts area if you prefer to keep walking.
After lunch, follow Andador Guadalupano east. If weather and energy are good, continue to Templo de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

Day 2: choose one excursion
Option A: Chamula + Zinacantán
Choose this if your priority is nearby highland communities and cultural context. The two communities are commonly combined in a half-day or day trip from San Cristóbal.
Photography and video are prohibited inside the church in Chamula. Follow community rules and do not treat the villages as open-air attractions.

Option B: Sumidero Canyon + Chiapa de Corzo
Choose this if your priority is landscape and a boat trip. Shared excursions commonly combine the canyon with Chiapa de Corzo, and some include viewpoints.
How to Visit Sumidero Canyon from San Cristóbal
Do not try to add both Option A and Option B to the same day unless you have a very specific private itinerary. For a short visit, one well-chosen excursion is more useful than spending most of the day in vehicles.

Stay inside San Cristóbal unless one excursion is the main reason for your trip.
